Myth #1 – A Chiropractic Adjustment Hurts

FACT: Most patients actually feel a sense of relief, and the adjustment will cause no pain.  Chiropractic Doctors make adjustments to the spine through specific movements – shifting the body to provide motion to joints that may be locked up.

Myth #2 – Chiropractic Care is Expensive

FACT: Studies indicate that chiropractic care is actually more cost-effective than traditional medicine.  Several researchers examined data from 85,000 people utilizing Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee over a period of 2 years.  They found that people who received treatment for low back pain through a chiropractic doctor instead of a medical doctor incurred costs that were 40% lower!

Myth #3 – Once you Start Seeing a Chiropractic Doctor, You have to Keep Going the Rest of Your Life

FACT: Regular chiropractic adjustments are part of a healthy lifestyle, but each patient always has a choice to continue regular checkups a couple times a year.  In fact, some patients can see a chiropractic doctor only once or twice before experiencing full recovery.

Myth #4 – Chiropractic Adjustments Could Be Dangerous

FACT: Studies show that chiropractic adjustments are actually much safer than most common activities such as washing your hair in the shower, break dancing or laying in the grass to enjoy a starry night!  Generally, the malpractice insurance that doctors are required to pay is based on the risks in their field of healthcare.  Chiropractic doctors pay less for malpractice insurance than any other type of doctor.  Why?  Lawsuits claiming injuries are less common against chiropractic doctors!

Myth #5 – Chiropractic Doctors Only Treat Back Pain

FACT: Chiropractic doctors specialize in improving joint function.  They focus on maintaining movement to the joints of the spine as well as the neck, knees, ankles, hands, and feet.   They offer headache relief, neck pain treatment, provide care after an auto injury, and even provide sciatica pain relief.  Pregnant mothers seek chiropractic care for pain during pregnancy, and many athletes utilize chiropractic treatment for sports injuries.

Myth #6 – Children Don’t Need Chiropractic Doctors

FACT: Although it is true that children’s bodies are more flexible and heal more quickly than an adult, children still need to be checked by a chiropractic doctor regularly to ensure that their bodies are developing correctly.  OSHA estimates that most children experience 1,500 spinal–related traumas before they turn 5 years old. Chiropractic Treatment can minimize the negative effects that can result.

Myth #7 – Chiropractic Services Aren’t Covered by Insurance

FACT: Most insurance plans (including Medicare) include chiropractic benefits.  Insurance companies have statistically quantified the cost of preventive healthcare vs drugs and surgery.

Myth #8 – Chiropractic Doctors Don’t have as Much Schooling as Medical Doctors

FACT: A degree in chiropractic requires 2,887 education class hours while a medical doctor requires 2,756 hours.

Myth#9 – Prescription and over-the-counter drugs are safe

FACT: Adverse reactions to correctly prescribed drugs are the 3rd leading cause of death in America.  Chiropractic care offers a safe, drug-free alternative to many of the symptoms often treated by medication.

Myth #10 – Chiropractic Treatment Rarely Works

FACT: Millions of people have experienced great results from regular chiropractic treatment.  Some of these include: Tiger Woods, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lance Armstrong, Emmit Smith and many others.
